etectives are looking for a white male after the attack in Glasgow’s Knightswood area, which took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 46-year-old victim got into a burgundy-coloured, hackney-style taxi in Drumchapel with a female friend between midnight and 1am on Sunday.
They picked up a male friend en-route and both the male and female friend were dropped off in Drumchapel. The taxi continued on its journey, taking the victim to Knightswood.
The woman was then dropped off at Alderman Road at Dyke Road where she paid the driver and began to walk the rest of the way home. As she turned into Commore Drive from Alderman Road, a man grabbed her and raped her. The attacker is believed to be around 6ft tall and in his thirties with short, dark hair and is of a medium build.
He is described as being unshaven and was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit with white trainers. He was wearing a stud earring in his right ear.
Detective inspector Stephen Healy, from Strathclyde Police in Drumchapel, said: “This has been a dreadful assault on a lone female coming home from a night out. She is extremely traumatised and upset by what has happened and it is imperative we trace the person responsible.
“I would like to reassure the public that although this type of random attack is rare, additional police patrols will be carried out in the general area.
“I would like to speak to the taxi driver who drove the group of friends home. It’s possible he has important information which could lead us to the suspect.
